I recently managed a project to launch the’s iPad app. The site is The Gazette and KCRG’s high school sports platform.

The app was developed by Minnesota-based DoApp. CEO Wade Beavers’ developers did a nice job with this, in my opinion.

It’s probably the best automated app for the iPad that I’ve seen. By automated I mean that it doesn’t add any work for content editors. They post content to the main content management system which feeds the main site and it also shows up on the app.

A couple of other things that I like about the app:
– Content submitted by fans, coaches, parents and others shows up on the front page.
– Audio content works well. WMT Radio and the Iowa Prep Sports crews each do a podcast that shows in the app. When you listen to it it simply opens in the app. Very user friendly.
– You can connect your own Twitter and Facebook accounts to the app and those feeds also show up on the front page.

I noticed how cool the Facebook connection was tonight. A group of us were out playing disc golf today and we uploaded a group picture to Facebook.

That picture showed up in my Facebook feed on the app’s homepage. Very nice.
